A very insightful article which is quite helpful for the prospective applicant for the Judicial clerkship. I am still indecisive to apply for the recent opening but I must say your article is one of the few reliable sources which would help me make an informed decision. I believe more clerks should come out in open and speak about the hyped confidential job of judicial clerkship at Supreme Court.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

"However such an expansion of the applicant pool should not extend to those who have already worked in the chambers of lawyers who regularly appear before the Supreme Court." Sidharth is the reasoning here to avoid any iota of bias or mal practice? i dont understand your reservations here. If a young counsel has assisted a Senior he may be able to assist the judge(reading the file, making a summary) faster. Of course he should always exempt himself from assisiting the Judge on the matters of his erstwhile Senior/AOR? Thanks.
Great Post btw!

"Once in Court, law clerks often find themselves interacting with the security personnel and the staff at the judges’ library, often with comical consequences."

It must be underscored that is one of the best parts about clerkship :)

Also- the orientation session at the beginning of the Supreme Court’s term would truly be invaluable with 26 judges, each with their own style of allocating work and no uniform practice followed.

The new clerks can gain deep insights in what to expect in the coming year if they get some time to interact with the outgoing clerks of the same judge. Not that it is very hard for the new clerks to track down the old ones and have an informal chat but there are certain advantages in institutionalising the same.
