The trust was for individuals like Arghya and his era. As senior natives we have to apologize for our agents and their indiscretions.

To the Unknown previously mentioned: Dus has been certainly launched in 2005, nevertheless that was due to the fact there was clearly many key troubles in polishing off this film.

well written but we can't simply criticize Dr Manmohan Singh and label him as timid just because of his career as a PM .... he is indeed an notorious economist well if we are criticizing our PM so much then i can't understand why we leave our president i mean Mr Pranab Mukherjee is doing a fine job as a president but if we compare Dr Kalam and Mr Mukherjee we will say that our present president is doing a fine job but we cant ignore the technological contribution of Dr Kalam .... so when someone criticizes only one thing pops up in my mind ...actully the saying of Sir Albert Einstein ... he said that everyone is a genius and it is hypothetical if we compare a tortoise and a cheetah in racing

The hope was for people like Arghya and his generation. As senior citizens we need to apologize for our representatives and their follies.

Much as I would want to, I cannot seem to agree with A Hopeful Indian. Manmohan Singh is timidity personified. However much one praises him for his intellectual prowess and his class act in pulling India out of a morass in the 90s, the country just cannot progress with his brand of leadership where every crisis is met with stony silence obviously not because he does not have a view- a person of his stature cannot but have one-but because he is hard-pressed to keep it close to his chest. Modi is arrogance personified with an ability to create the myth of being a successful leader by steamrolling anyone who comes in his way. Every crisis facing the country is not met by constructive opposition but is blown up with a flexing of vocal muscles. There is a singular unwillingness on both sides to admit their errors, say "Sorry" and move on. Both suffer from utter lack of statesman-like qualities, something that was available in abundance even till the 70s in the political fraternity. Neither approach bodes well for the motherland and it seems that she will stumble on while our Neros continue to fiddle. Do we then look for a political equivalent of Maradona to produce " the hand of God" to take us safely past both Scylla and Charybdis and reach us to our 'Goal'?

Aye mere pyaare vatan, aye mere bichhade chaman
Tujh pe dil qurabaan
Tu hi merii aarazu,
Tu hi merii aabaru
Tu hi merii jaan

The song from Kabuliwala happens to be one of my favourite numbers. Our nation, as is reflected in your writing, is indeed in such a deplorable state that I often refer to it as- mere bichhade chaman.
I am happy that Arghya and your generation are introspecting and hopefully working towards building a more meaningful and a truer nation than that which we see around us.
Hoping that bichhade chaman will translate into -
jahaan daal daal par sone ki chidiyaa karti hai baseraa
woh bhaarat desh hai meraa

In fact, the song was released in 1999 itself! Haha. I always thought the 2005 Dus was the earlier Dus completed. But it isn't. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dus_(1997_film)

Great article, Arghya!

To the Anonymous above: Dus was indeed released in 2005, but that was because there were some major troubles in finishing the movie. The song was released much earlier in 2001.
